The Leadership Academy provides participants with opportunities for personal development, critical thinking, and regional awareness, connecting individuals from a wide range of industries and backgrounds. The program welcomes emerging leaders, those new to the area, and established professionals seeking to make a greater impact in their communities.

"I’m honored to have been selected for this opportunity,” said Roberts. “The Illinois Valley region is full of passionate people, rich history, and scenic outdoor recreation. I’m looking forward to learning from local leaders, deepening community partnerships, and bringing that insight back to help expand our tourism storytelling efforts at Heritage Corridor Destinations.”

Roberts grew up in Naperville and attended Metea Valley High School in Aurora before graduating summa cum laude from DePaul University in Chicago. She brings an extensive background in journalism, having served as Assistant Editor at Chicago Parent and contributed to several notable publications including Chicago Reader, South Side Weekly, Riot Fest, and Wednesday Journal.

Heritage Corridor Destinations congratulates Nikki on this well-deserved recognition and looks forward to seeing her continued leadership and community engagement throughout the Illinois Valley region.
