Bill Murray and The Veecks Take Over Ownership of The Joliet Slammers

In a surprising move that has both baseball and comedy fans buzzing with excitement, the legendary Bill Murray, alongside Mike Veeck and Night Train Veeck, has stepped up to the plate – not as an actor, but as the new owner of the Joliet Slammers. Murray, known for his iconic roles in classic comedies, has a penchant for the unexpected, and this venture into baseball ownership adds another layer to his eclectic career. With a trio of ownership that includes not only Murray's flair but also the seasoned expertise of Mike Veeck and Night Train Veeck, the Joliet Slammers embark on a new era that promises to be as entertaining as it is unpredictable.

Bill Murray's entertainment career has been nothing short of illustrious. With a BAFTA Award, two Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and two Independent Spirit Awards under his belt, as well as a Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, Murray has proven his versatility and comedic genius over the years. Rising to fame on The National Lampoon Radio Hour and solidifying his status as a national treasure during his time on Saturday Night Live, Murray's career took off with a string of successful comedy films.

While he may be best known for his roles in films like "Ghostbusters," "Caddyshack," and "Groundhog Day," Murray has also dabbled in the world of sports ownership. Before taking over the Joliet Slammers, Murray was involved in the minority ownership of the Minor League Baseball teams, the Charleston RiverDogs and the St. Paul Saints, alongside Mike Veeck. Notably, the Saints were considered the premier independent baseball team in the country before joining the affiliated ranks in 2021.

The Joliet Slammers, a Minor League Baseball team based in Joliet, Illinois, are gearing up for the 2024 season with a new owner at the helm. The team is set to open its season on Friday, May 10, against the Evansville Otters. With gates opening at 5:35pm and the game scheduled to begin at 6:35pm, fans can expect an electrifying start to the season under Murray's ownership.

To commemorate this exciting change in ownership, the Joliet Slammers are offering a limited-time, specially priced "New Owner, Who dis(count)?" Season Ticket package. This exclusive offer is available only through Monday, January 15th. Fans can secure their season ticket plans for a thrilling year at just $375 for a Club Seat and $275 for a Reserved Seat, enjoying a $50 savings.
