As America prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, the American Discovery Trail Society is organizing an extraordinary coast-to-coast relay carrying a copy of the Declaration of Independence from California to Delaware. Beginning July 4 and concluding on Thanksgiving, baton carriers will travel by foot and bicycle across the country along the American Discovery Trail an interconnected network of scenic and historic trails that stretches from coast to coast and includes the I&M Canal State Trail.Were thrilled by the enthusiasm and support already building for the relays journey through the I&M Canal National Heritage Area and we want to make sure you join us.The relay is currently scheduled* to travel through our region on: Friday, October 9 La Salle to Ottawa Saturday, October 10 Ottawa to JolietAs plans continue to come together, were working to make this a true community-wide celebration and include as many people, organizations and communities as possible along the route.If youre excited to get involved, wed love to hear from you.
